According to some, Rocky Road dates back to 1893. Now it just so happened that in the same year the Federal Bank collapsed leading to perhaps Australia’s first banking crisis; Paddy Hannah discovered gold in Kalgoorlie and Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria came here to do a spot of hunting – and we know what happened to him.
Anyway, seems Rocky Road was a way to sell confectionery that had gone off enroute from Europe. Jut add a few bits and pieces and some cheap local chocolate and then you have it. Perfect for the rocky road that’s between you and the gold fields.
Probably as true as the New Zealand version of whether them or us created the Pavlov.
Well, no matter the origin story back in 1893, our rocky road of today is made from the very best ingredients, including dried cranberries.
